Sharon is a dedicated music teacher, singer, vocal coach, pianist and workshop clinician. She is a recipient of the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society Award (USA), an international honor society founded in 1897 that recognises excellence in all academic disciplines. She is also a Multi-Medalist (garnering Gold, Silver and Bronze medals) at the 2015 World Championship of Performing Arts in Long Beach, California, USA. With 20 years of teaching experience, she has literally taught hundreds of students ranging from 1 year old to adults.
Born into a family of music lovers and educators, Sharon grew up with music from infancy. She did her first live solo recording at 3 years old singing a collection of songs for her father, accompanied by her mother on the guitar. By 5, she was leading songs in her Kindergarten class. At the same age, she started formal piano lessons which she enjoyed very much, and consequently, she decided to make music her professional career.
At the University of the Philippines, where she graduated cum laude, Sharon had the privilege to be taught by many of the most experienced and learnt people in the music industry – with teachers and professors hailing from prestigious music schools around the world such as the Juilliard School of Music, Conservatoire Nationale Superieur de Musique de Paris, and the Manhattan School of Music, to name a few. Her Piano, Voice, Music Theory and Choral Conducting teachers include Imelda Castrillo Ongsiako, Emmanuel Laureola, Rey Paguio, Dr Raul Navarro, Ryan Cayabyab, Jovianney Emmanuel Cruz, Nita Abrogar Quinto, Agot Espino, Michi Martinez, Dr Patricia Silvestre, Dr Ramon Santos, Gemma Malicdem, Dr Joy Marfil, Ligaya Quinitio, Dr Eudinice Palaruan, Dr Felicidad Prudente, and Dr Jose Buenconsejo. As a chorister, Sharon was a trainee in the UP Singing Ambassadors under Mr. Ed Manguiat, and then the UP Concert Chorus under Ms. Jai Aracama. She also had the rare privilege of meeting with and attending the concerts and masterclasses of many world-renowned artistes such as Cecile Licad, Yoyo-Ma, Reynaldo Reyes, Albert Tiu and many others. Sharon was greatly inspired by the talent, hard work, generosity and humility of these great artistes and teachers that she aspires to follow in their footsteps.
Her parents, being both teachers in their own fields, greatly influenced her to always find the most efficient methods and approaches in teaching. The various pedagogy courses she has taken and her keen interest in the intellectual, emotional and spiritual needs of her students help her mould her teaching methods to suit her students’ needs.
